What would a first engagement look like?
Start with a short brief about m&e and field data. Tell us your country, the task your team repeats, the output you need and your deadline. We will discuss the scope, deliverables and price before work begins.
- Describe the current process and the people using it.
- Agree the documents, workflow or system to deliver.
- Review the proposed scope and implementation approach.
Define the decision before building the dashboard
Begin with the questions the team needs to answer: which locations need follow-up, which activities are behind schedule, or where reported results need verification. For each indicator, agree its definition, source, frequency and responsible person. A dashboard is useful only when its measures are understandable and its information is current.
Review data before publishing results
Field records may contain missing dates, repeated entries, inconsistent location names or totals that use different definitions. An agreed validation process helps reviewers identify these issues before figures reach management or a donor.
- Check required fields and reporting periods.
- Flag possible duplicates for review rather than deleting them automatically.
- Keep site and indicator names consistent across submissions.
- Separate missing information from a genuine zero result.
- Record corrections and the person responsible for approving them.
Connect evidence to action
A monitoring workflow should show the next step as well as the current number. We can discuss assigning an issue, recording follow-up and producing an approved programme summary. Where your team uses spreadsheets or a field-data tool such as KoboToolbox, we can assess its exports and integration requirements during scoping. Integration availability depends on the agreed system and access.
Explore the WASH monitoring demonstration
The Impact Pulse WASH demonstration illustrates monitoring and follow-up for water and sanitation programmes. Use it to discuss the information a supervisor needs and the reporting questions your team faces. It is a demonstration, not a record of a live programme. A separate 14-day pilot discussion can establish the scope, responsibilities and practical requirements for your organisation.

Can we start with Excel or existing field forms?
Yes. Begin with the records your team already maintains. We can review a blank form or anonymised sample and agree what needs to change before choosing a tool or integration.
Does a dashboard measure impact by itself?
No. It displays the information supplied to it. Measuring outcomes and impact requires suitable indicators, reliable evidence and an appropriate evaluation approach; a dashboard supports that work.
